I was talking to a friend yesterday and she said that, you know, sometimes people come to America. And their name isn't pronounced the way it was, you know, thought of and given to them, Davis said. Is that something you wanted to do in this movie? Is that something you wanted to convey about the character?
Yes,” Moore replied. Nämor, I would say, obviously was given that name by someone in the film as well. So, it's not even something that comes from him.
But there is definitely a way that a Spanish-speaking, or even a Mayan-speaking person, would say Nämor. Compared to a way that an English-speaking person, or someone who has a slightly more Western edge, might say.
Nāmor and we thought it was interesting. I mean, it's a reality that people have to face, and it felt more genuine than everyone saying it correctly, to be honest.
As both Davis and Moore have pointed out. The different pronunciations of one's name used by others are simply a fact of life for many people in the real world. Including and especially those of Hispanic and / or Latin origin.
Furthermore, the world of genre fiction is certainly no stranger to debates. About how a certain character's name should be pronounced: l. Just ask Han Solo from Star Wars or John Constantine from DC.
Created by Bill Everett, Namor, also known as the Sub-Mariner. First appeared in the uncirculated Motion Picture U.S Funnies Weekly edition. The character made his first appearance for Timely Comics.
Marvel's predecessor, in Marvel Comics, originally released in August 1939. Two years preceding the creation of DC's Aquaman, Namor is the superhero who rules. The underwater kingdom of Atlantis, as well as being the original Marvel mutant.
